Sierra Domb celebrates being multifaceted, and alongside her professional work in health, science, and communication, she enjoys amateur nature photography. While in Florida, she captured local scenes as a reporter, with her photos featured in The Miami Herald and other online outlets. Whether encountering animals and unique scenery with friends in California or discovering landscapes while visiting family throughout the Caribbean, photographing nature has been a fun and calming activity that Sierra has enjoyed for many years.
At the height of her Visual Snow Syndrome, Sierra’s visual experience was drastically altered by dense flickering static, flashing lights, extreme light sensitivity, afterimages, and other sensory disturbances. While grappling with feelings of detachment from the visual world, photography became a way to stay connected. Capturing natural environments through the lens, despite navigating a neurological condition that distorted her vision, brought a sense of familiarity. Sierra continued with photography as a creative outlet, reminding herself she could still do some of the things she loved, even if through a different perspective.
